PC or Mac: which one to choose?
I repair both every day, with no commercial preference to defend — here is an honest comparison to help you choose, based on your actual use rather than on fashion.
Choose a PC (Windows) if...
- You play recent video games or use software that only exists on Windows.
- Your budget is tight: the choice of hardware is far wider, from very affordable to high-end.
- You need specific professional software (accounting, trade tools) often reserved for Windows.
- You want to be able to repair or upgrade your machine easily yourself.
Choose a Mac if...
- You work with photos, video or graphic design: the screen and the tools are built for it.
- You already have an iPhone or an iPad and want everything to sync effortlessly.
- You want a machine that stays smooth for longer, with less maintenance.
- Protection against viruses is a priority (Macs remain less targeted, without being invulnerable).
What I see most often in the field
On home visits, I mostly see PCs that slow down after a few years for lack of maintenance, and Macs that people keep longer but that cost more to repair in the event of a hardware failure. Neither is "better" in absolute terms: the right choice depends on your software, your budget and your habits.
